I would like to apologize for not updating the first page of Chapter 2 yet. BUT – I have been working on it since wednesday and it IS worth the wait. So, todays update will be the Stop The Rain Preview. Think about it this way, instead of one page, you get ten today!
Sorry again for no update today. I have been so extremely busy this week driving to LA and back, doing lots of things other than the comic. But it’s for the good of the country. The comic will continue this tuesday. Enjoy stuff until Spine gets back.
Sorry guys, I’m really busy with work right now. Once the “Intercession” Post Production ends, the comic will be back full force again.
I’m very sorry about the inactivity and the lack of updates in the past 2 weeks. 2 jobs! Yet, seems like the film production has ended. So, until October or so I’ll be able to work on Spine but I can’t guarantee 3 page a week updates.
I think the next page will be updated either thursday or sunday.
i got a sore throat and the ears are getting plugged. it’s gonna be a fun monday. I got three offdays coming so, I’d like to draw and draw and draw. My goal is to deliver at least two pages this week and maybe get this boring meeting scene out of the way, so we can kill some people again.
Hello,
My strange transition period seems to be coming to an end. So, I can define a set day for all updates. I will be updating Spine: Blindknot every thursday. However, that’s not all. From now on, I will be posting sketches and other illustrations at random. Check back the site every thursday for the main update, but also take quick looks here and there to see if there’s a new illustration. The best way to get updates would be the RSS feed, if you chose to subscribe to that, or check my twitter where I announce all updates. Cheers.
I’m thinking about adding some new fancy stuff to the layout. Like a drawing of Spine and Visrian to the left side, in front of the background banner. It could be faded so that it doesn’t distract from the actual page. Also, a new page with links to my other projects is long overdue. People must know that I do other things. Any thoughts?
Here we have Spine battling a flying coffin as she pulls a pipe from the head of it. I don’t really know how any of these things work. But I do feel the comic is getting a bit sidetracked from it’s original course. Which was the “weird machines and gears that Spine battles”.
I think it’s time to bring this back. That’s what I’m gonna do in the next few weeks. Spine will be fighting flying machines, propellers, pipes, coffins, gears, organs…. Her new goggles will help. We’ll see where this whole thing goes.
Just watched “The social network” tonight. Being older than the guy who invented facebook made me depressed. It was an excellent movie otherwise. I’ll probably get buried in my own pipes and things one day. Hey, maybe that’s me in that coffin.
I’ll be working on the new layout in the next few days. I have the new menu buttons done as of now. Currently, About, Archives and Store do not work. I know it sucks, but it’ll be awesome when they are fully done. I’ll let you all know for sure. I’m doing a brand new about, archives and a store section. Archive section will be awesome, with better graphics, heh.
About section will have a lot more information than just my little blurb. I’m going to put brief descriptions of the cast of characters, the Kingdoms and a brief history of the known world. It’ll be fun. I will also make sure there are no spoilers for the regular readers. Meaning, I’m not going to tell you a detailed story on Spine’s background right away because you’re not supposed to know any of that stuff yet. But, if you forgot something about Visrian that was mentioned earlier in the story; you won’t need to figure out where that was, instead just read the about section about him really quick and find out. I will also have links to the mentioned pages such as first appearances, special passages. Anyway, sort of like a wiki but not really.
I just realized right now that Spine: Blindknot is a year old as of 8th of November!
Fun :D
I drew this last night in Trevor H’s room. We had a grand old time with bubblicious and many other things. It was a gourmet night for sure.
…that I play WoW. I recently left my old bad ass guild just to make another bad ass guild with (hopefully) the same crew. The guild is called The Bakery. Now, why is this important and why is it here? Just like many things I do, or like many things happen to me, this guild business turned into another excuse to create art. So, here it is then: The Banner of The Bakery
Also, for those who are interested in the actual guild, We’re on maelstrom and we’re recruiting.
I think it’s gonna be fun.
Some people were asking about what other comics I draw. Here’s a weekly comic that’s published in Idyllwild Town Crier. Steve Hudson writes it and I draw it. We’ve been working together on this Idyllwild related comic for the last few years. This will be published this thursday, so you get to see it before it hits the newspaper boxes all over Idyllwild.
However, people have a strange habit in Idyllwild. Even though it’s California there’s snow in this mountain town. The popular and economic way of heating up your house is making a fire. People use newspapers and magazines for the quickburner and wood for the long lasting heat. Anyway, the residents like to put a quarter into the newspaper boxes and steal the contents of the entire box just to burn it. Isn’t it great?
I guess, I can’t say “I don’t usually do this”, since this is the third one. I thought I’d celebrate and share this one as well. I’ve been making this On The Fringe comic with Steve Hudson for one-hundred and forty weeks. That’s a lot of weeks of doing something, okay? So, here it is people with a cool angle and some IDY shops - Enjoy and bless a kitten.
I had a lot, i mean A LOT of fun doing this. I got to talk about the history of comics for the first day. The second day, I drew the assignment on the board as I was explaining what to do. First, there was faint blue ink on the board – they kept complaining about how it was invisible. I kept smiling and assuring the crowd that it would all make sense soon. As, I explained the principles and importance of doing a preliminary rough sketch, penciling and inking, I picked up the strong red marker and “inked” my own “pencils”.
Their eyes lit up – all of a sudden it made perfect sense why people make comics the way they do. Doing two different passes of your drawings will let you focus on different things at different stages so that you don’t have to worry about everything at the same time. First, we do the rough sketch and only and ONLY think about composition. Then, we pencil and think about proportions, shapes and areas. At the end, we ink. During this, we think about line variation, weight, surface, patterns and of course – making it look bad ass. Here’s the assignment board:
Here’s some feedback after the class:
“Cihan was an amazing drawer, and he inpired me to really try on my drawing and I thought it turned out well. He also helped me and everyone else figure out what we wanted to do with our drawings to take them further. I really enjoyed doing it and I hope I can do something similiar again.” – Hannah P.
“The comic class was fun! Even though I’m not a great drawer I enjoyed drawing & learning about comics. It was also fun to watch other people draw.”
The comic class/workshop was awesome. It inspired me to draw to draw a different style of art than I usually do. I learned a lot though, and had fun. So THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME! – M. Turk
I liked making comics!!! ; )
“Good times. Would’ve loved to be mentored. But, sadly, I couldn’t due to my schedule.” – Eric H.
The comic workshop was… TOTALLY RAD
SPLAT! SWOOSH! BAM!!
POW!
I had a dream once where I was told I’d die on a May 19th. In case that happens tonight, I wanted to leave you with a wallpaper. I decided to crop this exciting illustration and give it to you in the largest wallpaper format that i know of: my own.
Here it is then, in its full 2560×1440 glory. Enjoy.
